HC Deb 25 February 1926 vol 192 cc728-9W
Sir F. SYKES

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will state, in respect of boy training establishments, the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, the Royal Naval Engineering College, Keyham, the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, the Naval Staff College, and the Naval War College, respectively, the estimated capital values of lands and buildings occupied; the respective annual costs of building maintenance, of educational stores, of provisioning, and of other stores; the annual cost, and the numbers of the educational staff; the annual cost, and the numbers of the staff other than those engaged on educational or works maintenance duties; the annual cost of any other services; and the establishment of personnel under training, and the maximum number under training during the past 12 months?

Mr. DAVIDSON

The Admiralty are always ready to furnish information of this nature so far as practicable, as my hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate from the answers given on the 11th instant to his questions in regard to the medical service and the Admiralty headquarters staff. A good deal of the information asked for in the question is, however, contained in the Navy Estimates, and I do not feel that, when every effort is being made to reduce work in order to keep numbers as low as possible, and when the staff are already overburdened with work, the expenditure of time and labour involved in preparing a statement in the exact form asked for by my hon. and gallant Friend would be justified.
