HC Deb 23 February 1926 vol 192 c346W
Mr. LAWSON

asked the Secretary for Mines the amount per ton of royalty to be paid on coal won from the mines to be worked in Kent by Messrs. Pearson, Dorman, Long, Limited, under the guarantee given by the Treasury?

Colonel LANE FOX

So far as my present information goes, the average royalty is equivalent to a rate of about 7d. per ton.

Mr. LAWSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the date when the guarantee of £2,000,000 was given to Messrs. Pearson, Dorman, Long, Limited, for the development of the Kentish coalfield; and what financial return, if any, the Treasury will receive for this guarantee?

Mr. R. McNEILL

The recommendation was made by the Advisory Committee on 25th November, 1925. As regards the second part of the question, there is no power to charge for guarantees under the Trade Facilities Scheme. The return for the guarantee will be the increase in the number of men employed from a present figure of 700 to an estimated figure of 5,000.
