§ Mr. SCURRasked the Minister of Transport whether the London Traffic Committee has made any recommendation concerning the proposed St. Paul's Bridge over the Thames; and, if so, whether he proposes to accept their suggestion?
§ Colonel ASHLEYThe answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the negative. The second part does not, therefore, arise.
§ Mr. SCURRasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the Bridge Committee of the Corporation of the City of London has considerable funds in its possession which can only be used for building and maintaining bridges which touch the boundary of the city; and whether, in view of the necessity for bridges over the Thames not touching the city boundary, he will consider the question of promoting legislation for making 326W these funds available for building bridges in other parts of London?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI am not sure that the hon. Member has correctly described the restrictions imposed upon the Bridge House Estates Committee, but I do not propose to promote legislation on the subject.
§ Mr. SCURRasked the Minister of Transport whether the London Traffic Committee have taken into consideration the question of a bridge at Charing Cross for vehicular and pedestrian traffic; and, if so, what recommendations have been made?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI understand that the London Traffic Advisory Committee have been, and are, giving consideration to the question of the Thames bridges generally. Up to the present, the Committee have made no recommendations to me in the matter.
