Colonel DAY

asked the Minister of Health the number of prosecutions instituted for breaches of meat market regulations, requiring the provision of clean covering for meat in transit; the number of convictions secured; and the amount of fines, minimum and maximum, so inflicted?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I have received information as to 56 prosecutions being instituted for various breaches of Article 21 of the Regulations which relates to the cleanliness of meat in transit; of these, 41 have been heard. Convictions were obtained in all these cases. The maximum penalty imposed was a fine of £25 without costs, and the minimum penalty was the payment of 3s. costs.
