HC Deb 23 February 1926 vol 192 c324W
Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Minister of Transport the number of coal trucks owned and operated by the London and North Eastern Railway Company in 1923, 1924, 1925, and on 1st January, 1926, respectively?

Colonel ASHLEY

The number of mineral wagons (which are used for certain other traffics besides coal) owned at the 31st December, 1922, by the railways now comprised in the London and North Eastern Company's system was 100,065, and there were in addition at that date 539 mineral wagons on hire to those railways. The numbers owned and hired, respectively, by that company were 99,043 and 1,819 at the end of 1923, 94,548 and 1,862 at the end of 1924, and 96,562 and 1,859 at the end of 1925. The decrease in the total number owned at 31st December, 1925, compared with 31st December, 1922, was accompanied by an increase in the total carrying capacity.
