HC Deb 18 February 1926 vol 191 cc2165-6W
Mr. MERRIMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can give the comparative cost to the State, per head per annum, of the education of cadets at Woolwich, Sandhurst, Cranwell and Dartmouth, respectively?

Mr. CHURCHILL

As regards the first three colleges, the gross cost per head for the current financial year is estimated to be as follows:

£
Woolwich 524
Sandhurst 391
Cranwell 615
Towards this expenditure the following average fees are paid by parents:
£
Woolwich 124
Sandhurst 104
Cranwell 63
As regards Dartmouth the annual cost per head is £285, but this figure does not include the annual value of buildings, etc., owned by the Admiralty, and is therefore not strictly comparable with those for Woolwich, Sandhurst and Cranwell. The average fees paid by parents of Dartmouth cadets amount to £125.
