HC Deb 11 February 1926 vol 191 c1279W
Mr. RENNIE SMITH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can see his way to press for the total abolition of passports at the forthcoming International Conference of the League of Nations on 12th May.

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

The restrictions in force in nearly all countries, including this country, on the admission of aliens, makes it necessary for travellers to carry authoritative proof of their identity and nationality. In the circumstances I do not feel able to press for the abolition of passports at the forthcoming Conference to be held under the auspices of the League of Nations.
