Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Attorney-General the names of the advisory committee to the Lord Lieutenant of the North Riding of Yorkshire, appointed for the purpose of advising as to new Justices of the Peace, and what Petty Sessional Divisions of the county they represent; whether there have been any changes in the constitution of the body recently, and, if so, what; and how many times the committee has met during the last two years?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL

The advisory committee for the North Riding of Yorkshire consists of the Lord Lieutenant and the following members:

Lieut.-Colonel the Viscount Downe, J. P., D. S.O., who resides in the Petty Sessional Division of East Pickering Lythe.

Sir Henry Monson de la Poer Beresford-Peirse, Bart., J.P., who resides in the Petty Sessional Division of East Hang.

Hardy Dack, Esq., J. P., who resides in the Petty Sessional Division of East Langbaurg.

Benjamin Seebohn Rowntree, Esq., J. P., who resides in the Petty Sessional Division of East Bulmer.

Lady Bell, J.P., who resides in the Petty Sessional Division of Thornaby.

The members are not appointed to represent particular Petty Sessional Divisions. They are selected from amongst persons having a good general knowledge of the whole of the North Riding. There have been no changes in the constitution of the committee since 1921, when Lady Bell was appointed. The Lord Chancellor understands that the committee has met twice during the last two years.
