HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 cc1072-3W
Sir N. MOORE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory nature of the train service from London to Kew and Richmond on the District Railway; and whether he will take such action as is necessary to improve this service, which compares unfavourably with the facilities accorded to other localities within the same radius of London?

Colonel ASHLEY

I understand that this service was improved two years ago, since when no complaints that it is unsatisfactory have reached me. I have no control over railway train services, but if my hon. Friend has any specific suggestions to make I will bring them to the notice of the company.

Sir N. MOORE

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the existence of a railway line that has not been operated for some years connecting Richmond and Kew with the great London terminal stations north of the Thames, which if operated would relieve the existing traffic congestion and enable visitors from the Metropolis to enjoy the benefit of easy access to Kew Gardens, he will take such steps as are necessary to secure the reopening of this railway?

Colonel ASHLEY

I presume that my hon. Friend refers to the through service formerly in operation between Richmond and the Metropolitan Railway via Hammersmith. My information is that this service was withdrawn in consequence of it being very little used and proving unremunerative, and that the companies do not consider that it would be practicable to reinstate it at present.
