HC Deb 10 February 1926 vol 191 c1054W
Miss WILKINSON

asked the Minister of Labour whether evidence before the Committee of Inquiry into Unemployment Insurance is being restricted, as far as local exchange committees are concerned, to the main committees or whether the women's sub-committees and the juvenile employment committees are being invited to give evidence?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

The method adopted by the Committee of Inquiry consists in circulating to the local employment committees a list of questions and thereafter asking the chairman and vice-chairman to attend a conference in each of the seven Employment Exchange Divisions, at which replies to the questions will be prepared, representing as nearly as possible the collective views of the local employment committees in that division. I have no doubt that the chairmen of the different committees will take such steps as they think proper to ensure that they are fully informed as to the views both of the main local employment committee and of its sub-committees. The Committee of Inquiry have not so far circulated these or similar questions to the juvenile employment committees, which are separate bodies from the local employment committees, but they will no doubt consider whether they should do so.
