asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many admirals (vice, rear, engineer, surgeon, paymaster, etc.) there were in 1914 and how many in 1925, and what was the cost in 1914 and 1925, respectively?

Mr. DAVIDSON

, pursuant to his reply (OFFICIAL REPORT, 8th February, 1926, Columns 632–3), supplied the following particulars:

The number of flag officers, and officers of equivalent rank, in 1914 and in 1925 were 112 and 103, respectively. These numbers include officers on half-pay as well as those in appointments. The cost of their pay and table money, where payable, was £154,450 in 1914 and £187,810 in 1925.
