HC Deb 09 February 1926 vol 191 cc874-5W
Sir W. SUGDEN

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he has received figures showing the profit of certain London coal merchants for the financial year 1924–25; if so, whether that figure has been certified by chartered accountants; and if it includes any allowance for Income Tax, directors' fees, salaries of owner managers, &c.?

Colonel LANE FOX

The Coal Merchants' Federation have furnished me with a statement, certified by a firm of chartered accountants, that the average net profits per ton of coal sold by six London coal merchants for the year 1924–25 was 7.54d. It is stated that no charge is made for interest on capital, remuneration of partners, directors' or managing directors, Income Tax or Corporation Profits Tax.
