The wages paid to head foresters and Grade I foresters (established) range from £150 to £270 per annum, to Grade II (60 per cent. established), from £120 to £150 per annum, and to foremen (unestablished), from 42s. to 45s. per week; to forest workers employed on day work the wages vary with the local agricultural wage and are comparable therewith. A large amount of work is done at piece rates which enable the men to increase their earnings. The average wage paid to the workers in the Parkhurst Forest, based on earnings for the last three months, was 37s. 7½d.; per man per week; they are not paid for wet time when on piece work, but they are paid for wet time when on day work; the average wage of these workers during each of the months of September, October and November of this year were respectively 36s., 39s. 6d. and:37s. 1d. per man per week.
