HC Deb 04 August 1926 vol 198 c3020W
Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Minister of Health the highest and the lowest economic rent charged for subsidised houses built by any local authorities; whether he is aware that at Hastings some of the council houses require a weekly economic rent of 19s. 7d.; and why the figure is so high?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

It is presumed that, by economic rent, the hon. Member means the rent which may be charged by a local authority for houses erected under the Housing (Financial Provisions) Act, 1924, if the contribution by the local authority be restricted to £4 10s. per annum for 40 years. I regret that the general information for which the hon. Member asks is not available, but I will make inquiry into the particular case to which he refers, and communicate with him.
