HC Deb 04 August 1926 vol 198 c3018W
Mr. H. EDWARDS

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the continual depression in the cotton industry and the consequent increase in unemployment among the textile workers, he can see his way to set up a special Commission for the purpose of making an exhaustive investigation into the causes of the depression and of making recommendations in regard to the best and most effective means for dealing with such causes?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I have been asked to reply. I am not aware of any general desire on the part of the interests concerned in the cotton industry for an inquiry of the kind suggested, and consequently have nothing to add to the answer given by the Parliamentary Secretary on the 28th July to the hon. Member for the Elland Division (Mr. Robinson).
