§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEasked the First Lord of the Admiralty upon what grounds the recommendations of the Reorganisation Committee of the National Whitley Council have not been fully applied to the typing complements of his Department, in so far as the number of superintendents provided does not tally with the ratio of superintendent to basic posts recommended by that committee; and whether he is aware that no other 3006W Department employing so large a number of shorthand-typists and typists fails to provide a controllership and one or more chief superintendents?
Mr. DAVIDSONThe working conditions of the Central Copying Branch of the Admiralty are special in that this branch carries out true-to-scale, photo-printing, photostat and photographic work, as well as the ordinary typing and shorthand work of the office. The existing staff of superintendents of typists and acting supervisors is considered adequate for the direct supervision of the typing staff. The post of controller is not necessary having regard to existing staff, but the question of the introduction of the grade of chief superintendent is now under consideration.
