Colonel DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of slaves emancipated in the Hukawng Valley, following the expedition of Mr. Barnard, together with the total amount of money spent by way of agricultural advances or free-gift cost of emancipation?

Earl WINTERTON

3.487 slaves are reported to have been released, the cost of emancipation being stated at Rs.1,90,878. I have not received more detailed figures or information as to how much has been or will be spent in agricultural advances.
