§ Lord E. PERCYStatistics classifying departments by the number of teachers employed in them were last compiled for the year 1921-22. They showed 642 departments with one teacher only and 4,446 departments with two teachers. The teachers were not shown in their grades, but since the number of uncertificated head teachers was between 500 and 600, it is probable that the great majority of the head teachers in these departments were certificated teachers.
