§ Major GLYNasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any information regarding the placing of orders for locomotives by foreign Governments in this country and Germany, respectively; whether he is aware that British tenders are in every case 33½ per cent. above the prices quoted by German firms; and what are the causes of this disparity in costs of production?
§ Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTERI am aware that, in a number of instances, German tenders for locomotives have been very much below British prices. I do not 1139W know of any special circumstances in regard to German costs of production in the locomotive industry, as distinct from other German engineering industries, which account for the disparity.
