Situation. Total Number of Blast Furnaces. Of which there were at the end of February, 1925 In blast. Blown out. In England, except Monmouth. 347 135 212 In Scotland 102 21 81 In South Wales and Monmouth. 33 8 25 Total 482 164 318 Owing to the need from time to time of repairs to furnaces and blowing plant, and for other reasons, it is not possible to have the whole number of furnaces in blast at the same time, The maximum number in blast during 1913 was 338. The maximum number in blast at any one time since the War was 303 in September, 1920.
