HC Deb 05 March 1925 vol 181 cc684-5W
Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of accidents directly attributable to shot-firing in the mines of Great Britain for the years 1921, 1922, 1923 and 1924; and whether any special steps are being taken to prevent these accidents?

Colonel LANE-FOX

supplied the following statement of accidents arising directly out of the use of explosives, and the number of persons killed and injured thereby, at mines under the Coal and Metalliferous Mines Regulation Acts. It does not include explosions of firedamp or coal dust caused by the use of explosives.

progress which, I hope, will show how the risks of shot-firing may be still further reduced.
