FALLEasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether, in view of the fact. that 17 officers are now employed as Assistant Inspectors of Naval Ordnance in the Department of the Director of Naval Ordnance, he will consider whether the storekeeping duties now being carried out by a recently appointed retired officer could be carried cut by one of the 17 inspectors and the miscellaneous duties by another, and a saving thereby effected without loss of efficiency?
Mr. DAVIDSONI would remind my hon, and gallant Friend that the post referred to is not a new one. The duties attaching to it are quite distinct from those appertaining to the Assistant Inspectors, nine only of whom are employed at Woolwich Moreover, these officers are already fully employed and could not take over any extra work.
