(2) what is the total number of trade unionists belonging to the recognised unions; how many belong to the. Workers' Union; and how many of these are agricultural labourers?
Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSONThe Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies can give me figures for registered trade unions. and states that according to the returns sent to him the total number of members of registered trade unions on the 31st December, 1923, was 4,413,589, the membership of the National Union of Agricultural Workers was 66,094 males and 200 females, and that of the Workers' Union was 125,000 males and 15,000 females. He cannot say how many of these are agricultural workers or labourers.
