§ Mr. H. WILLIAMSasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been drawn to the recent action of the Bilston Urban District Council in placing an order for pumps with a Swiss firm instead of with a British firm; whether his Department made any representations thereon in connection with the loan required for the purpose of this and other plant?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am aware of this case. The contract was awarded, after public tendering, to a British firm, which proposes, as part of the contract, to supply the Swiss pumps, and thereby effect a considerable saving of money. The council have been informed that no grant will be paid by the Unemployment Grants Committee on that part of the expenditure which relates to the purchase of the pump.
