§ Mr. R. YOUNGasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total value of war stocks, etc., cancelled at the request of the holders as a contribution towards the reduction of taxation since the end of the War; what is the amount of interest saved to the country annually as a consequence of these gifts; whether there are cases in which the interest only is cancelled; and, if so, what is the annual saving to the country from this source?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLI would refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave on the 9th December to the hon. Member for South Hackney (Captain Garro-Jones). The saving of interest on the cancelled stock is about £20,000 a year.
