§ Sir J. GILMOURI am not in a position to give the information asked for in the question because Returns are not collected in Scotland for the dates mentioned. The detailed returns collected 61W as at 15th May, 1925, give the following figures:
(a) Sane Poor 189,212* (b) Other than Sane Poor 17,860 Total Poor of all classes including dependants 207,072 * (This figure includes destitute able-bodied unemployed to the number of 21,988 and their dependants 54,271 Total 76,259) The following figures are taken from the less detailed Returns collected at 15th September, 1925:
