§ Mr. PURCELLasked the Minister of Transport whether he is prepared to introduce legislation whereby the onus of paying full compensation in regard to any injury to a passenger, irrespective of the class of ticket held, while travelling by train, be put upon the railway company should such injury arise out of the negligence of the railway company or any of its servants?
§ Mr. GOSLINGRailway companies are at present liable under common law and otherwise to pay compensation for injuries to passengers due to negligence of the company or its servants. It is, however, open to passengers to enter into special contracts by which the companies' liabilities are lessened, but I do not feel prepared to recommend to Parliament to prohibit such arrangements in return for special fares or facilities.
