BULLasked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the fact that the members of a public body should be proportionately representative of those who provide the income of that body, he will arrange that in the Thames Conservancy Bill now before Parliament provision will be made for applying that principle to the Conservancy, and so end the anomaly which at present exists whereby a majority of conservators appointed by non-contributing bodies is in a position to spend money which it does not have to provide or be answerable for?
§ Mr. GOSLINGThe hon. Member may perhaps not realise that one effect of the adoption of his suggestion would be to transfer to the Metropolitan Water Board the control of the Thames Conservancy. By the Bill to which he refers the conservancy propose to make the alteration in their constitution recommended by the recent Inter-Departmental Committee on the Thames Conservancy, and I am not prepared to press them to consider any further alteration at present.
