HC Deb 20 May 1924 vol 173 cc2018-9W
Lieut.-Colonel POWNALL

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the present national capacity for the manufacture of propellants and high explosives; and what was the figure in 1913?

Mr. WALSH

I am sure my hon. and gallant Friend will be the first to recognise that it would not be in the public interest to give the information asked for in this question, at least, so far as our present capacity is concerned. The capacity at the Government factory at Waltham in 1913 was

  • 60 tons cordite per week.
  • 300 lbs. tetryl per week.
  • 5 tons of gunpowder per week.
