§ Mr. LINFIELDasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that some local unemployment committees demand from applicants certificates from their foremen to show that they have been seeking work; that they are sometimes refused these certificates since the demand is not legally justified, and that the applicants are therefore being refused the relief to which they are entitled; and whether he will take steps to see that this procedure is abolished?
§ Mr. SHAWI would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for the Lanark Division of Lanarkshire on the same subject on the 27th March last. I am personally making the fullest inquiry into this matter, and in that connection I shall be glad to learn of any particular case of hardship which the hon. Member has in mind.
