HC Deb 11 March 1924 vol 170 cc2148-9W
Mr. SANDEMAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade what weight of raw cotton was imported into Lancashire during the years 1921, 1922, and 1923 from India?

Mr. WEBB

The official record of imports and re-exports does not suffice for the determination of the consumption of Indian cotton in Lancashire year by year. According to the tables published in the International Cotton Bulletin, the consumption of Indian cotton in 1921 in Great Britain amounted to approximately 137,000 cwts., and in 1922 to 236,000 cwts. For the first half of 1923 the consumption is shown as about 240,000 cwts.; figures for the completed year are not yet available.
