§ Captain W. BENNasked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the lack of married quarters for troops stationed in Edinburgh and Dunbar, and to the consequent hardship inflicted on women married on the strength whose husbands have recently been moved to these places from Colchester; and whether he will consider taking the steps necessary to get matters improved?
§ Mr. WALSHI am fully alive to the shortage of married quarters referred to, a state of affairs which is, I regret to say, not peculiar to Edinburgh and Dunbar. The question of married quarters is continually under review, but no lodgings are at present obtainable near the barracks in question, and in the present financial stringency I regret that I cannot give an undertaking to build at these two stations in the immediate future.
