§ Captain TERRELLasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that recent legislation by the French Chamber contemplates a restriction of imports; and can he state what imports are likely to be affected?
Mr. WEBBI understand that the measure to which the hon. Member refers is still before the French Legislature, and has not yet been enacted. It proposes to authorise the French Government to prohibit provisionally by Decree the importation into France of foreign goods of any description. I have no information as to the way in which these powers, if accorded, are likely to be exercised.
