asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether any further steps have been taken to find alternative employment for Major Barnard, a disabled ex-service man recently dismissed from his Department?

The salaries shown carry Civil Service cost of living bonus in addition, and the salary of the officer in the Ministry of Health is personal to the present holder. The established typists employed under these officers are paid on the usual Service rates, which are as follows:

Superintendents of typists, £150 to £180 per annum.

Shorthand typists, 28s. to 46s. per week.

Typists, 22s. at the age of 18, rising to 2Ss. at 21 and thence to a maximum of 36s. a week.

Cost of living bonus being payable in addition.

The consolidated rates of pay of adult temporary typists and shorthand typists employed on the basis of a 42-hour week in London are as follows:

Temporary shorthand typists, Grade 1, 51s. 6d. to 57s. 6d. per week; Grade 2, 44s. 9d. to 52s. 9d. per week.

Temporary typists, Grade 1, 44s. 1d. to 50s. 1d. per week; Grade 2, 36s. to 44s. per week.

These rates are inclusive.
