HC Deb 04 June 1924 vol 174 c1284W
Mr. LUMLEY

asked the Minister of Labour if foreign waiters are insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts; and if he can give any estimate of the number of foreign waiters at present in this country and the number of them registered as unemployed?

Mr. SHAW

Foreign waiters are insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts under precisely the same conditions as British subjects similarly employed. Statistics are not available as to the number of foreign waiters insured or registered as unemployed, but according to the 1921 census there were 3,536 foreign waiters in England and Wales and 100 foreign or naturalised waiters in Scotland.
