HC Deb 04 June 1924 vol 174 c1286W
42. Captain TERRELL

asked the Minister of Labour the number of aliens who have been permitted to enter this country since the beginning of the year; and how many of these came to study, to travel, to seek work or to fill posts offered to them?

Mr. DAVIES

I have been asked to reply. I beg to refer the hon. and gallant Member to the figures which my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. and gallant Member for Burton (Colonel Gretton) on the 1st May in regard to aliens who landed in this country during the first quarter of 1924, and I would only add that no alien is allowed to land in search of work or to fill a post offered to him here, unless he holds a permit issued by the Ministry of Labour to his prospective employer. A more detailed analysis of the alien passengers landing in this country is published in the annual Returns; and the Return for 1923 is now in the press.
