HC Deb 02 June 1924 vol 174 cc899-900W
Mr. G. WHITE

asked the Minister of Labour the number of appeals to the court of referees and the umpire arising out of the recent boilermakers' dispute at Southampton and the number of such appeals which have been allowed?

Mr. SHAW

I presume the hon. Member refers to the shipyard workers' dispute at Southampton, concluded on the 23rd April last, in which, however, the boilermakers were not among the classes of men who struck work. The following are the figures asked for:

Number of appeals to the Court of Referees 651
Number allowed 104
Number of appeals referred to the Umpire and decided 55
Number allowed None
(Thirty-one other cases referred to the Umpire are still under consideration.)
