§ Mr. WHEATLEYThe returns as to the total cost of Poor Law relief relate to the financial years ended 31st March. Special monthly returns have, however, been obtained as regards domiciliary relief since the early part of 1922, and according to these the amount of such relief given in money or in kind in England and Wales during the first six months of 1924 was about £6,995,000. The corresponding figures for 1922 and 1923 are approximately £9,460,000 and £7,600,000.
