HC Deb 30 July 1924 vol 176 c2089W
Sir W. SUTHERLAND

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he is aware of the hardships and dangers to the people on the Island of Jura by reason of the absence of roads; and whether he will give special consideration to the application made on their behalf by the Islay District Committee to the Board of Agriculture for Scotland for a grant towards the cost of construction of a roadway about 2½ miles in extent at Knockrome, Isle of Jura, with a view to securing the making of this road?

Mr. ADAMSON

I am aware of the circumstances of this case. The road in question has been noted by the Board of Agriculture for Scotland for consideration in connection with the allocation of grants, but the funds at their disposal are so heavily committed that they are not meantime in a position to offer assistance to the Islay District Committee.
