HC Deb 30 July 1924 vol 176 c2076W
Mr. B. SMITH

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether an inquiry was held with regard to the alleged mutiny on 29th April, 1921, at Newport; what was the number of men concerned and what punishment was meted out to the respective ratings concerned; and whether he will lay the Report of the inquiry upon the Table of the House for the information of Members?

Mr. AMMON

An exhaustive inquiry was made into this incident at the time and so far as possible every officer and man concerned, including all ratings implicated in the disobedience, were interrogated. The Admiralty are unable to accede to the request at the end of my hon. Friend's question. The proceedings of such inquiries are invariably regarded as confidential for reasons of discipline. As regards the numbers involved, I would refer my hon. Friend to my reply of the 8th July to the lion. Member for North Tottenham (Mr. B. Morrison).
