§ Mr. WHEATLEYThe consolidated rates for the current half-year amount for the township of Sheffield to 8s. 2d. in the pound and for the township of Ecclesall to 7s. 8d. in the pound. The rates include 2s. 11d. and 2s. 3d. respectively for the relief of the poor and other expenses of guardians, including relief of the unemployed. As regards the last part of1916W between Gravesend and Tilbury; and, if so, what is the position of the scheme?
§ Mr. GOSLINGAn eminent engineer, acting under my instructions, has been for some time past studying the problem of constructing a road tunnel under the Thames between Kent and Essex. As soon as his investigations are completed, the matter will receive my careful consideration.
