§ Mr. CLARRYasked the Home Secretary what are the general reasons for 1909W which his Department withholds consent to the South Wales and Monmouthshire Truant School, at Quaker's Yard, to deal with pupils from the associated educational authorities; and what alternative does he suggest in dealing with the necessity?
Mr. HENDERSONThe school referred to is certified as an industrial school under the provisions of the Children Act, and owing to the large reduction in recent years in the number of children for whom accommodation of this kind is required, a good many schools have been closed. After careful consideration of the circumstances it was decided that the South Wales and Monmouthshire Industrial School is no longer required and that it ought to be closed. The managers have presented a petition asking me to reconsider the matter, and this petition is receiving my careful consideration.
