§ Sir K. WOODasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office how many discharges are contemplated as a result of the closing of the Woolwich Dockyard; and whether other work will be available for the men concerned and to what extent?
§ Mr. LAWSONA notice in the terms subjoined is now being posted at Woolwich, and I regret that I cannot at present add anything to the information contained therein:
"NOTICE.
Ordnance Office,
Royal Arsenal.
Notice is hereby given to the un-established employés at the Arsenal and dockyard who entered the Department during and after the War that considerable reductions will be necessary in consequence of the evacuation of the Royal Dockyard.
These reductions will not commence until after 30th August, 1924, and two weeks, or such other notice as he or she may be entitled to, will be given to each employé before actual discharge.
Every effort is being made to place some of the surplus employés, who may be suitable, in available vacancies occurring in other War Department Establishments, but it is clear that such vacancies are not likely 1529W to be numerous, and no guarantee can be given that any individual will be found employment.
