§ Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHYasked the Home Secretary whether, before he gives permission for advertisements to appear on the London taxi-cabs, he will give an opportunity for the opinion of Parliament to be expressed; if he is aware that many of the owner drivers, as distinct from the companies, are opposed to this innovation; and whether he will undertake to consult all interests before taking any definite steps in the matter?
Mr. HENDERSONThe request that advertisements should be permitted inside (not on) cabs has recently been pressed upon me by two deputations—from the Motor Cab Trade Protection Society and the London Motor Cab Trade Joint Committee respectively, representing owner-drivers and journeymen as well as companies. In the circumstances I decided, as I have since stated in the House, to report their request to the Commissioner and ask him to consider concrete proposals on their merits if submitted to him; and I hardly think it is necessary for me to make further inquiry or to take up the time of Parliament over the matter.
