HC Deb 21 July 1924 vol 176 c897W
Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has any information with regard to the present position of the proposed legislation to give autonomy to the Church of England in India; and whether, before anything is decided, the Measure will be submitted for examination to a Select Committee of both Houses of Parliament in order to see that the essential rights of English Protestants resident in India are properly safeguarded?

Mr. RICHARDS

The draft of the Indian Church Measure is under consideration by Government, and the authorities of the Church of England in India. It is not expected that it will be ready to be proceeded with this year. Until it has been received in its final form, I am unable to say what procedure will be adopted in dealing with it.
