HC Deb 21 July 1924 vol 176 cc889-90W
Mr. SOURR

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Langenhoe Wick and Langenhoe Hall farms, situated at Langenhoe, Essex, owned by the County Farms and Land Company, employs only one man, although the acreage is over 1,000; and whether, in view of the danger to adjoining farms from the growth of obnoxious weeds, he will take steps to prevent this valuable arable land from becoming derelict?

Mr. BUXTON

I have no definite information as to the facts of the case, but I have brought the matter to the notice of the Essex Agricultural Committee as the responsible authority for securing the destruction of injurious weeds under the Corn Production Acts (Repeal) Act, 1921. The Committee state that they have not received any complaint to the effect that any of the weeds mentioned in the Act are growing on the land in question, but they are inquiring into the matter, and have called for report.
