§ Mr. P. OLIVERasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, seeing that the definition of an ex-service man as instructed in the Civil Service is an ex-service man who joined His Majesty's Forces at least three months prior to the Armistice, he will consider extending the definition so as to include ex-service men who attained the age of 18 between 12th August, 1918, and 11th November, 1918, and enlisted immediately on attaining such age?
Mr. GRAHAMPreference for temporary employment in the Civil Service is generally given by the Joint Substitution Board to ex-service men with more than three months' service prior to the 11th November, 1918. There are usually more than sufficient candidates falling within this category, but ex-service men with shorter service are preferred, other things being equal, to non-service candidates, when other ex-service candidates are not available.
