§ Mr. LAVERACKasked the First Commissioner of Works if the flag depicted in the fresco painting, "The Landing of Charles II at Dover, 26th May, 1660," exhibited in the Commons' Corridor, is 396W supposed to be the present Union Jack; if so, whether he is aware that the banner of St. Patrick was not incorporated in the Union Jack until 1st, January, 1801; and whether he will give instructions, in view of the record attendance of visitors from all parts of the country, and particularly school children, that the flag painted in the picture be, repainted to accurately depict the banner of the period, namely, the banner of St. George, i.e., white with a red cross, and the banner of Scotland, i.e., blue with a white diagonal cross?
§ Mr. JOWETTI am aware of the anachronism to which the hon. Member refers, but regret that I cannot adopt his suggestion that the flag should he repainted.
