SOMERVILLEasked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the officially admitted fact that it takes from three to four years to train an apprentice to become a bricklayer's tradesman, he will state how any extension of the apprenticeship system is expected to materially assist in the construction of a large number of houses which are immediately and urgently needed?
Mr. GREENWOODThe problem is to increase continuously over a period of years the present insufficient provision of houses for the working classes, and the proposals for an extended apprenticeship system made by the National House Building Committee appear to me the best way of attaining the desired result.
