HC Deb 14 July 1924 vol 176 c57W
Lieut.-General Sir AYLMER HUNTERWESTON

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been drawn to the inaccuracy of the milestones on the roads which are partially kept up by grants from the Imperial Exchequer; whether he will make it a condition of these grants that the milestones on these roads shall be made to show correct distances; and whether he will consider the advisability of having the starting points of these distances determined on some comprehensive plan?

Mr. GOSLING

No general complaints of this character have reached me, but I appreciate the desirability of recording accurate mileages, systematically measured from recognised starting points In cases where deficiencies in these respects or apparent, I will urge upon highway authorities the need for improvement and will assist them in the task, as I have done in the provision of signposts.
